Explore The Types Of Air Cylinders Out There

Air cylinder is considered to be the ultimate model in compressed, pneumatic air control or in power system. Air cylinders are also referred as pneumatic cylinders and it is a tool that converts the compressed air power into normal automatic or mechanical energy that produce rotating or liner motion. The air cylinders basically works as actuator in pneumatic system; thereby it is popularly called as pneumatic linear actuator. These cylinders come with stainless steel or steel piston, a cylinder container, a piston rod and end covers. When the compressed air flows in to the cylinder, it pushes the piston to move forward along the length of the cylinder. The coil or the compressed air located at rod end of cylinder pushes the piston back t its home potion. There are valves that are responsible for controlling the pour of compressed air to cylinder.

Different Kinds of Air Cylinders

There are two different types of Air cylinders available today:

  • Single Acting Cylinders – It is the type of cylinder that is designed to perform single operating activity in one direction. It only has air pressure on one side of the piston flange that renders motion and force and the coil at the end of the cylinder deliver the return power after the force is released. The single acting cylinder usually requires half a amount of air compared to the binary acting cylinders.

  • Binary Acting Cylinders – As the name suggest, the binary acting cylinders carry the powered motion in two common directions with air pressure on both the ends. The cylinder is pushed in one direction and the compressed air pushes the cylinder again in another additional direction. The air lines at both the ends of the cylinder offer the required compressed air for movement.
